Stop Date Rape & Stalkers – 7 Rules to Follow on Blind Dates

 

Before you go on a blind date there are some simple rules that you can follow that will help stop a rapist or stalker. The best way of surviving  date rape is to know what to do to stop it from ever happening in the first place.

1) Before you even think about going on a date with someone, get to know them a little better. Ask the basic questions you ask people when you want to get to know them better. Where they work, their interests, where they are from, and so on. If they ask the same questions don’t be too detailed. Don’t tell them your street address, just tell the area of where you live. If your work is questioned, just tell them what you do and not where or what company you do it at. Never give them your phone number. If they ask for it tell them you don’t give it out, but you will take theirs. If they get mad or keep insisting they have yours than the odds are they are not the kind of person you want to date anyway. When you call them be sure to block your number. If they have your phone number and they are a stalker or date rapist than a simple reverse phone number search on the internet will give them your home address. Even if you have recently moved and haven’t updated your address with your cell phone company yet. Having a previous address is how law enforcement tracks down criminals, but this method is also used by stalkers and rapists.

2) Be sure to meet for the date at a crowded public place. This will make it easier to ditch and get lost into the crowd should you be uncomfortable at anytime during the date. You will also have easy access to public transportation should you need a ride. Do not set the date at your usual hang out spot. If this guy is a stalker he will know where to go to eventually find you. Part of surviving date rape and avoiding stalkers is for you to know them, but for them to know very little about you.

3) If you find your own transportation to the meeting place this will make it hard for them to know your address. If he offers you a ride and you don’t want to refuse arrange for him to pick you up somewhere other than your home and not a friends house. If they know where your friends live they will be able to break in and possibly torture your friends for information about you. Believe it or not this has happened before and believe me you don’t want that kind of guilt. Just tell him you have some things to do before the date and he can pick you up somewhere in town. Don’t let him take you home either. Give him the same excuse or that you need to go somewhere else. If he offers to go with you just tell him politely thanks, but no. You need to do this on your own or something to that effect. If you at some point got some bad vibes during the date you should listen to your gut. When leaving the date hang out around the corner and watch them leave to be sure you are not followed home.

4) Do not leave any of your food or drinks unattended. Finish them before going to the bathroom or calling home to check in. This is the perfect opportunity for them to place date rape drugs into them. If this can not be avoided be sure to have a date rape drug test kit handy in your purse.

5) Avoid leaving anything personal with them. Don’t leave your cell or purse sitting at your booth when you go to the bathroom. This could give them access to ID’s and phone numbers that you don’t want a first date to have just yet.

6) Offer to go Dutch and cover your part of the bill. Some rapists and stalkers feel that if they pay for the whole date that you are obligated to pay them back with sexual interaction. This will help to stop that line of thinking dead in the water. This rule is even better for you if you don’t plan on going on another date with them. You won’t feel obligated to return the favor by paying for a second date. If you feel you really like the guy and he seems like a candidate for another date than let him cover the cost if he wants. This way you can set the stage for the second date by telling them you will pay next time.

7) Tell a friend about the date

Listen, this is very important. You want to tell a friend about the date. Tell them everything you know about the date. The guy’s name, phone number, where you are going, and what time it will be. Have them call you 1 or 2 hours into the date to be sure how you are doing and that everything is okay. Should this turn into a situation where you come up missing,(God forbid), your friend will be able to give the police all the information you gave them.

This may seem like a lot for a girl to remember, but remember that this could possibly be your life and your virtue we are protecting here.
